In 1972 Ajman issued stamps for "Great Men of the War". Amongst Churchill and Roosevelt there were also stamps for Hitler, Stalin, Franco and Mussolini...

All the stamps got "A" numberings in Michel (2518A - 2525A) which usually means that the stamps have been somewhat added later or have found their way into the catalogue not under "normal" conditions.

But Ajman seems to have some unconventional cunmbering at least in Michel anyways.

The Hitler stamp (Michel: 2522A) has allegedly been withdrawn.

Can anyone shed light on the alleged withdrawal ? Anyone also knows about the "A" numbering for this stamps ? How do other ctalaogues number these stamps ?

Among other things, the "A" suffix is often used to indicate a perforated stamp; "B" an imperforate stamp.

My 1990 Michel #3629-2525 does not show A or B and has no indication of the perforation.

1975 Minkus shows #1343-1350 as issued July 1972, and only imperforate. Hitler is #1347.

1976 Official Trucial States (printed by M. Carus in Italy) shoes #2396-2403 does not indicate perforation, Hitler #2400.

1986 Stanley Gibbons Middle East does not list Ajman beyond the early 1972 issues.

you are right, I have to be more specific

In Michel there can be

A1234

and 1234A/B.

The latter as you describe, so probably here perforated or imperforated.

"A" BEFORE a number in Michel means the stamp has been added to the catalogue later (for whatever reason) after the numbering of stamps has already been done for that period. And to fit this correctly from an issue date this gets an "A" plus the number of the next earlier stamp
