I have been asked a question regarding the plate number of a 1841 Penny Red imperforated Stamp I'm currently selling on Declampe and Hipstamp (see image). Could someone help me please and give me some help in identifying the plate number.

Looks like 123 to me, but my screen resolution on the laptop is not that great.

I agree with Maiden.

minder1946, please see the following link:

http://cdn.collectionsbase.org.uk/g...R018_04o.jpg

Plating is based on the position of the check letters in their boxes and the different alphabets used.

The 16th edition of the GB QV specialised values a plate 123 at £38

Hope this helps

Dear Bobby,

I have a lot more Penny Browns and few penny blacks, is they any way you could seen me a scan of the relevant pages of the GB QV specialized cat with the details of the plate numbers?

Would greatly appreciate it

I have just noticed that I have attached the wrong scan, although the one originally shown is one of the others I have.
Have attached the correct scan

Hi minder1946

The catalogue I mentioned can't be reliably used for plating 1d blacks or 1d reds.

The two websites you will need are:

http://www.gbps.org.uk/information/...tion-sheets/

and

http://www.maltesex.com/missing_imprimatur/

Even between these two sites, not every stamp is covered.

For the first website, follow the links on the left side of the page.

For your OG stamp, I think it's plate 58, but would welcome Maiden's input. Cat.value £40

That one is not so easy without the original and a magnifier I'd hedge toward 83,88 183 or 188, but cant really tell for sure

Hi Maiden,

I had a look at the registration sheets and I'm not sure the stamp is from any of the four plates you mentioned. The position of the O didn't match, to my eyes at least.

I've taken another look, and I think you were right with plate 58 Bobby de to the 'O' position.

I have one I could use help with. Just getting into the area. I think it is Alphabet A. It looks like there is a break on the E in "One" and a white fleck by the "O" of "One" as well, but I could not find an example of this in the SP Spec Catalog.

Hi azstampguy,

Yours looks like a plate 69 to my eyes.

Is it IC or IG? It looks like IG to me.

Much of the horizontal stroke of the bottom loop to the G is weak and the downward stroke is almost missing. The imprimature for plate 69 shows the I in IG very high.
If it is IC, the bottom loop is very short. The imprimature shows it long.

@azstampguy

You can compare your example with those in the imprimatur sheets.
https://www.gbps.org.uk/information...phabet-I.php

Edit:
If it is IG, the I disqualiffies it as plate 69.
If it is IC, the bottom loop of the C looks quite different from that in the imprimature of plate 69. I also have my doubts about the break in the E that appears more pronounced in the imprimature. I would expect it to become more pronounced on an issued stamp, unless the plate was repaired. Consequently, I doubt it is plate 69.
