Whether a cancel adds or detracts is a matter for each collector to decide, both in the identity of the cancel and how visible it leaves the details of the stamp.
In this case, for me, the cancel obscures significant details of the face and additionally, the outer rim of the cancel overlays on much of the wording on the stamp. Yet the same cancel struck a few mm further to the NW, would be have the king looking out of the upper loop of the R and have the stamp's wording less obscured.
