Who can help me with some background information on this card.
First there is a meter cancel on it dated 1922 but Germany started with meter cancels in 1923 according to the wiki books meter catalogue.
Secondly I would like to have some info on the DEKAM company. I know that they were dealers in paintings, but that is all the info I can find.

Hello Hans,

The card uses the company type abbreviation, "GmbH" both after DEKAM and the full name at the bottom, Dr Karl Meyer.

I guess DEKAM (or, sounding it out, De Ka M) is just Dr Karl Meyer's trading name.

I cannot help you on the Meter part.

DEKAM(Dr Karl Meyer). was a company that produced printed copies of famous paintings.

Someone is offering a catalogue of DEKAM on ebay UK at this moment. This might give a an even better idea.

I see lots of hits with Google for "Dr Karl Meyer GmbH Leipzig" as a book publisher around 1923, 1928 etc.

Certainly looks to be a metered mailing. Printed matter postcard rate of 40 pfennigs domestic began on 1 January 1922.

Hans,

This particular meter type was in use as early as 1921.
