Hi all. I have the 1840-1940 Classic Specialized Catalogue from Scott. Being a new collector, I assumed that there would be a 1941 + version (World)...well that was a novice move/thought ( yes I get it now). I have the US covered. Aside from the the US, I collect Mexico in depth but I realize there is not a specialized Mexican catalogue. What would be my options for 1941 - 1975ish for cataloguing my Mexican Stamps? Thank you all, Nora
P.S. Please forgive my ignorance if the answer is obvious.

Search ebay for Mexico Scott Catalogur. There is someone that tears out sections of the catalog. Other option if to buy a used Scott Catalog that covers M's. Also available on ebay. |

Opinion: Try to remain loyal to your first catalogue use (in this case Scott) Specialised catalogues can come later, or at your will. Be aware: These are pages removed from the 2020 Scott Catalogue No covers to the pages but are not generally loose. I have bought from this vendor for 5 years. Mexico $19 + ship Scott #1 up to Sc#3133 (2018) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mexico-202...AOSw495dIUvw |

Nora - You could look out for a cheap copy of Gibbons' Central America catalogue (yes, I know that Mexico's in North America), last published in 2007. Earlier editions aren't in colour. You'd get a range of other countries into the bargain. Yvert's North America catalogue includes Mexico, but its catalogues tend to be less detailed than Gibbons'. https://www.greatbritainstamps.net/...d_21013.html |

I get myself The Gault Catalogue of G.B. Perfins on a memory stick. 3295 pages with almost 25,000 different perfins to start my GB perfin collection. And many other things, lists and more. There's definitely some work ahead ... |

Nora, have you looked into MEPSI (Mexico Elmhurst Philatelic Society International)? They tend to have some information on Mexico. =)
I collect Mexican revenues, documentos, timbre, renta..... And find that the Roberts Catalog (Mexico's Revenue Stamps; Michael D. Roberts) is quite helpful.
You can try Nicholas Follansbee; A Catalogue of the Stamps of Mexico 1856-1910.
I also use the Scott Online Mexico eCatalogue.
All in all, there's not a lot of information in catalog form that I can find. I'm mostly interested in the Mexican State Issues during the 19th century and the stamp over prints. Some are easy to find like Jalicso and a few others. |

You guys are awesome in helping me understand what is out there. I have a bit to think about and I definitely need to use my MEPSI membership to help me identify some of my stamps 1940+ until I figure out what would be the best option.
Moyock - I have yet to decide what I will do with all of my documentos, revenues, - I love those stamps however they are not in my Scott Mexico specialty album (1856-1978) so I have been looking at printing those pages myself.

Quote: I collect Mexico in depth Then don't skimp on buying literature and don't skimp on joining the societies. Both will repay you in knowledge and savings. |

Not skimping John. Just pacing and maneuvering my extremely busy work, young child parenting, and many in my responsibilities life. Now, With my other homeschooling job over (Phew) at atleast for a few months, I'm getting back into the rhythm with my spare time. Thanks again all for the advice, I'll continue to share my album and progress. |

That's good. Not aimed at you then, but my broader point would be that many collectors with $20 or $50 or $100 or more burning a hole in their pocket choose to buy more stamps and ignore supplies, literature, and societies.
I heard as a beginner that a scholarly philatelist often has a library which took up as much space as their collection. I agree with that observation. I have found it good to spend 10-20% on these support items. To paraphrase, I see farther when I stand on the shoulders of giants. I enjoy and understand my collection better because of the efforts of those who have gone before us and the literature they have left behind - and continue to produce. |

Makes sense - I feel that I have a very long (hopefully) journey ahead being relatively young. A long runway to learn, read, experience - there will times of intense study and times that I will have to step away. I do know that I have a lot of pride in the work I have done thus far (from knowing nothing), and that pride will inevitably drive me to want to learn and read more about the history, design and story behind my stamps.
