Thailand issued a set of 8 stamps on July 17, 1973(SC#666-673) on Mural Painting Fresco from Temple of Emrald Buddha illustrating scenes from Ramayana. Need help in identfying scenes depicted on these stamps.

That is going to be tough,
I have seen that Ramakien, and it stretches for metres.

Perhaps Michel catalogue may indicate the scenes?

Please post back if you find information.

Meanwhile, some reading for you.

Not sure how helpful this list will be, but listed in SG SOTW in denomination order:
King Janaka's Procession, Contest for Sita's hand, Monkey Prince toppling portico, Monkey King breaking umbrella, Maleenarj as Court chief, Sprinkling holy water, Tapansura fighting Rama, Bharata on march.

The SG list is in the same order as the OP.

The set is shown on the site below (about a third of the way down) with the tantalizing snippet:

"In 1973, Indonesia issued a set of 8 stamps depicting various scenes from Ramayana which included Ashoka Vatika, Ravana's Parasol, Vanara Sena crossing the sea etc."

Hello sksondhi1

For years I also try to find the descriptions of these stamps and I afraid I can help very little. Here is the information I gathered:

75 St. - City of Lanka:

1.5 Baht: Angada breaks down the Lanka city gate:

2 Baht: Ravana's Parasol:

3 Baht: I read somewhere that this stamp shows the monkey army crosses the sea to Lanka, but I am not sure:

6 Baht stamp: When the monkey army wanted to cross the sea to Lanka, Hanuman, the Monkey-god, enlarged his body and served as a bridge for the army forces.

That's all I have. I have no information about the rest three stamps. I will scan them all and will post them in one post. Regards

Hi Lao Phil,
A friend of mine sent me image of a page from Stanley Gibbons Stamp Catalogue, Part 21, South East Asia, with details of scenes depicted on Thailand Emerald Buddha set (SG 760-67).

Hope it will be of some help.
