Hello, After trying to cut thousands of mounts myself to place them over a Scott album, I gave up So now I'm considering buying a hingeless Palo Premium Album. Not taking into account the price (I understand it is expensive), what is your honest review of their hingeless album? That's the one I'm considering buying => https://paloalbums.com/products/bra...824883753063Thanks! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** ** All Album info is in the Philatelic Book, Reference, Supply and Software forum **

Bear in mind that this is merely an expensive version of Steiner pages, with larger paper and a different font, but the same design drawbacks. |

I own a number of Palo premiums - quick thoughts on them.
Nice big pages, good quality paper. Follow Steiner layout (they licensed it), but looks more spacious/elegant. Separate out the air mails/semi postals etc, which may be a pro/con depending on your feelings on the matter.
They use their own 5 hole pages/binders, which work well - pages lay flat and turn easily. The black binders/slipcases are the best of the options, the slipcases for the coloured binders have a tendency to bow slightly outwards. They don't look/feel as nice as Lighthouse binders.
I've moved away from Palo to creating my own primarily due to cost, lack of flexibility (an issue with any pre-printed album), and separation out of semipostals/air mails from regular issues. I'm still planning on keeping what's currently in Palo albums there, quite happy with how they look. |

I would rather use the SCOTT pages, but I really want mounts on all stamps and doing that myself for thousands of stamps will take me forever. Is there a way to buy from someone SCOTT pages with all mounts in place? Thanks! |

Maybe keep looking at single-country Brazil collections at auction. For example, I sold a Scott Brazil album - with mixed mounts/hinges - when I disposed of my South American collection a couple of years ago. I'm sure lots more turn up in the US. Fixing mounts isn't that much trouble! |

Fixing mounts isn't that much trouble! I bought a SCOTT album with almost all stamps, but there are just too many used stamps in hinges, specially the very old ones. The mint stamp are in mounts. I really would prefer to have an album with all stamps in mounts, even the used ones. It would be great with there was a vender providing SCOTT pages with all the mounts in place. |

I have a couple and really like them. I appreciate the limitations and cost but have had a strong aversion to and a major ineptness at art and crafts projects (which for me includes cutting mounts) since primary school so its worth it for me. As others have noted, you can sometimes pick them up used for a decent price on ebay or auction. Palo also has a sale once or twice a year so I've usually waited for that to come around to help with the cost. I also believe that they will custom orders if you're only interested is certain age ranges. |

I Really like the Schaubek hingeless album I have. I got it for a deeply discounted price on the Amos Advantage website. I think that it may be difficult to find a new one distributed in the United States, but you may be able to find a used one- they occasionally show up. You might also try creating your own hingeless album by using Steiner or Scott pages and using Hawid mounts. Their open at the top style makes it easy to place the stamps- the clear style allows some wiggle room when positioning the mounts within the frames. |

I have a couple of Palo hingeless albums and I've been very pleased with them. One thing about Palo that I particularly like is that you can get a hingeless album for any country, no matter how obscure. |

Mystic Stamps sell pre-cut mounts in year sets for most U.S. stamps in recent decades. It's possible there are other year sets of mounts sold elsewhere.
Cutting mounts to proper size requires a lot of work. You must determine the proper size of mount you need. You must trim the mount to that size using a guillotine cutter or (more carefully) with scissors. Then you must attach the mount to the page an insert the stamp.
Perhaps someone could cut the mounts for you? It would take many days to cut all the mounts for an album, however, and you'd most likely have to pay them a lot of money to do such laborious work. So why use mounts at all? Either attach your stamps with stamp hinges (I do this for many of my collections) or insert your stamps into a stock book. Many collectors use stock books instead of albums. |
