I want to start collecting Great Britain stamps and I have no market experience for this area. The complete set does not have a very good scan, the perforations are complete, but I have the impression that the colors are not fresh. What would be the amount you would buy this set for? What can you tell me about the cancellation of the 1 Shilling stamp? Is it a postal cancellation?

Roughly up to £10 for a full used set (which what you've shown isn't) in average condition. Colours on this issue can be affected by soaking, hence the look of many of the examples one finds. These are common stamps, so worth holding in for a good set with clear pictures. |

Missing stamps: 1/2 d vermilion 2 d green and red (carmine)
1/2 d blue-green 1 s green and red (carmine), which is the most expensive one used.
Most of the colours do not look that bad. I have some doubts about the 1 d, 5 d and 1 s that look faded. The perfs indeed look quite okay. The general appearance could be better. I do not like the back of one of the corners on the 2 1/2d.The front does not look very good either, but that may be the scan.
But since you are left short four stamps, you might have trouble finding good ones at a reasonable price.
Full SG catalogue price of those shown in very fine (much lighter cancels and all with good colours and no black corners) was around £ 150 in 2001.
A good set including the 1s green and carmine at £ 10 as GeoffHA says, seems quite cheap if in good condition with light cancels. The 1s green and carmine alone catalogues at £ 125+ (SG). |

It looks to me like the colours have "run" the ink on the jubilees was water soluble. This might be your scan.I wouldn't touch them. The designs on the multicoloured stamps should be are usually very clearly defined. |

Thank you GeoffHa and NSK. The auction is at 3 Euro and may not increase much. On the sales sites in my country do not appear too often. From the same seller another 1 shilling stamp of a lot (I think it's Sc # 64 quoted at $ 150 -Scott 2009). The scan is just as bad and I wonder if the seller doesn't want to hide the status of the stamps. I will ask the seller to post a better scan with this stamp. I am curious to know the answer (if it will be) |

SG148 (deep green) or 150 (pale green) (indeed seems to be Scott's nr. 64), plate 10 put to press 14-7-1874
If you want to collect Great Britain, SG is more complete even at a basic (Concise) level. GB collectors also tend to use Stanley Gibbons, especially in Europe. SG's 2001 catalogue price was £ 70. Plates 12 and 13 were £ 50.
SG's 2020 summer specialised department list offers an SG 150 (pale green), plate 12 letters HJ, cancelled Birmingham JU.4.1877 for £ 150. |

I second what NSK has said about collecting Britain: Stanley Gibbons is a better choice than Scott. Also for the Empire. Used copies are plentiful. |

It looks like there is a horizontal crease or even fold through the eyes of Queen Victoria. The white line across the back coincides with a faint crease on the front of the stamp. |

It's not a crease. I cropped the image of the stamp from the presentation lot. This is the image of the whole lot. I searched unsuccessfully on my country's sites for the Great Britain SG catalog. But I hope you continue to help me. |

Top left is from the 1880 - 1881 "Provisional Issue" SG166, 1-1-1880 Second top looks like the 1875 2 1/2d rosy mauve with wmk. anchor, plate 2(?) SG138 - 140, depends on shade. Top right is the 2 1/2d blue of 1880 with wmk. orb if plate 17-20, SG142 or 1881 wmk crown if plate (number in top corners) 21-23, SG157. I think I see plate 21. Bottom left is also a 2 1/2 rosy mauve, but I cannot read the plate number. Plates 1-3 are wmk anchor SG166 and plates 3-17 are 1876 wmk orb, SG141 Bottom centre is the 1881 "Unified" 1d lilac. If it has 14 dots in each corner it is the original die I SG170-171. If it has 16 white dots in each corner it is the cheap die II, SG172-174. |

Thanks NSK, with your information I came to the conclusion: 2 1/2 p rosy-mauve, Plate 11 and 12 Sc # 67 2 1/2 p blue, Plate 21, Sc # 82 1 p Sc # 79 1 p (16 dots) Sc # 89 1 sh, Plate 10 Sc # 64 The total value of the lot amounts to $ 307 and the auction is only 4 Euros. I will stop at the amount recommended by Geoffha and I hope to win.

I hope you succeed. I think £ 10 would be a very good buy for this set. |

I prefer to buy from local sites because there is the possibility of sending by letter with cash on delivery. The cost of registered letters from abroad is too high a percentage of the cost of the small lots of stamps I buy. Thank you GeoffHa for the information. The auction is already at 8 Euro and comparing with the prices in the list of sales made (and the quality difference) I am already thinking of giving up the local market.
