NFC1 1925 Newfoundland Stamp – Engraved, Then Re-Engraved...?

Was looking through my Newfoundland stamps and came across a couple of the NFC1 "Custom duty" Edward VIII Prince of Wales stamps....Then started analyzing both of them....There was a distinct difference between the 2 "Custom Duty" stamps.

I am posting a well known example of a engraved stamp and then a re-engraved stamp {same design} to show you what I found....See example below.

Engraved stamp on the left {Scott 147 engraved-1928} and re-engraved stamp on the right {Scott 164 re-engraved-1929-1931}....Check out the colour differences.



Below is the stamp I am investigating....It is a NFC1 1925 Custom duty Edward VIII {Prince of Wales}....First notice the colour differences between the 2 stamps....Now you can say colour differences does not mean an engraved stamp has been re-engraved....But..But, look at the close ups of different areas of the stamps.









It is not recognized in Unitrade, N.S.S.C. and The Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalouge...Any ideas..??

Looks like heavy inking vs light inking.

If reengraving occurred, it would show as different line placement, etc. I would be looking at the fine lines of the face.

Well...I will go with over inked.

Inking variance may not be the answer, just an initial feeling. So far I am seeing bits and pieces of two stamps which may or may not be representative of the entire issue. Stamps beyond the back of the (back of the, back of the) book often have a lesser production quality standard. They are workhorses to get a job done rather than items to sell to collectors. Plates don't need to be cleaned up to perfection before going to press, can be used when worn, or get use with minor damage.

Ya...Maybe crappy plates...New look {3D effect} to see what I thought maybe printer trying to add scathing to adhere more ink..I know silly eh..??
