Denmark Early Classic, Watermark Help

This is an 4 ore Denmark stamp. It has an inverted frame, and is probably Scott 42a, which is watermark 112, or a small crown. The only other option I can find is Scott 42c, which is watermark 113, a slightly different small crown.


When I flip it over, under normal light, we don't see anything.


I put it on my flatbed scanner, so this is a scan from the back. I soaked in Ronsonol to try to pull out the watermark. What you may see is not a crown, but some marginal marks on the right side.


I tried to use Retroreveal, but this is the best that I could do.


Any idea what stamp / watermark I have here? Thanks for looking.

your stamp shows the inverted frame and it is cancelled 07.02. Therefore it must be, according to the AFA specialized catalogue 2016 the 121. print (02.1902) or earlier because the later printings up to 07.1902 are all with upright frames (Print 122 and 123). Therefore it should be watermark crown II. I do not know what is the the correct Scott number but if you are collecting Denmark try to get an AFA Specialkatalog from Denmark.

Based on your comments, I think we are saying Scott watermark 112 (the middle of the three crown watermarks), which, according to Scott, was issued in 1896 (normal frame), and unlisted date for inverted frame. The right hand crown is Scott watermark 113 which, according to Scott, was issued on this stamp in 1902-1904. It's too bad, as the later version catalogs $130 for a used version.

Here is another picture with the partial crown (in my opinion) outlined to show the details that I could locate.
