Thurn And Taxis Authentication Help Other German States

Posting some stamps here for discussion and your consideration. I got these in the 60's and have every reason to believe they are authentic. Any confirmation or condemnation would be appreciated!

It is not a reprint. The reprints have ND on the back in a florid font. Also, the 5sg was not one of the reprinted stamps.

In general, TnT forgeries are not as common as those of, say, Oldenburg or Hamburg. Forged postmarks, on the other hand, are a problem as several TnT stamps are cheap is unused but very, very expensive if postmarked.

Greaden, thanks for your comment and the information. The stamps do seem to carry a high value as used. TnT as you say are new and look to have gum. The North German Postal District on the other hand do appear to be used with 2 exceptions and I can not find them in the Scott's Catalog. There seem to be some on ebay, might they have any significant value?

For TnT, I am suspicious of any cancellation on the 5 and 10sgr, and 15 and 30kr issues from 1859, and any from the last, 1866 issue.

In 1866, TnT printed a lot of new stamps using improved printing technology. In 1867, following the Austro-Prussian war, Prussia took over the TnT postal services, and all the extra stamps went to collectors. They had a very short period of use.

One of the forgers, Fournier, used these numeral postmarks: 6,34,95,142,195.

The font used is sometimes a clue, but I am a long ways from learning reliable ways to be confident in a postmark, aside from avoiding the ones I just discussed.

I did find the others after Wurttemberg, nothing real valuable by the way it looks.

Seems likely the ones with special values are suspect. They came from a great source but with out someone to expertise them you just need to be careful. I have these and others that I have done nothing with for over 50 years and am thinking I should offer the group hare for a resonable offer and split the proceeds with the forum. Any interest? Let me know, I will put up more in time..
