I never thought I would live long enough to use one of my all-time favorite comic strips in a philatelic context:

Enjoy...
And thanks to Charles Schultz for his prescience regarding ebay. This strip dates from the late 1970s

The difference between ebay's user agreement and Hipstamps is that ebay is collecting my money and interfacing with my bank account. If they don't take responsibility for their "glitches" who does?

I've been dealing with Paypal for years and I think I've called them 3 times but I call ebay weekly if not more. The reps on the phone are helpful but very limited on the issues they can resolve and I am concerned that Managed Payments will be too much for them.

Hi Ken,
Understood.

We agreed to these companies T&Cs when we sign up but note that these T&Cs are standard software legalese. Microsoft is much the same; they are not responsible if Windows crashes and your lose everything on your PC. MS isn't collecting anyone's money either (i.e. transactional software) but it still can cost you big bucks if you lose irreplaceable data or it goes down right when you are in the middle of a transaction. TurboTax does not take any responsibility for their software; https://turbotax.intuit.com/corp/terms-of-use/. I have seen credit card transaction companies lose tens of thousands of dollar per minute when a software issue brought them down.

I realize that everyone loves to hate ebay. But my point is that this should not be about ebay in particular, any market leader is a likely target. ebay could go away tomorrow and whomever replaces it will be next in line for the hate. Why? Because market leaders often do 'flex their muscles' and are perceived as being bullies. Complaining typically has little impact on market leaders and this is even more true when their stock performance is outstanding. Folks who wanted to make money with ebay should have invested in their stock and avoided dealing with their T&Cs.

Folks often root for the underdog but history shows us that if the underdog grows up to be a market leaders the 'favored status' quickly melts away. <shrugs>

As from this morning the 19th July 2020 we can no longer list or change listings with ebay. Now we have to wait for the different legal people to line up for this conference that at present has no date set to fix things. The listings I changed yesterday are no longer up for sale with ebay.

We tried very hard to sort the mess out in time frame given. But it just turned into one big mess. Soon as ebay said it is requirement to join managed funds we have tried to get on top of this but it just did not work out. Our 2 stores are now down. The journey continues.

It is sad when it is your income though.

Still didnt get managed payment and can use ebay to sell, as before without any problem.

How can someone activate that managed payment option? How long must wait after registration, before can sell again?

Whats with the refund or return if money is on your bank account (as I know, none can legally just take it back or froze it (as Paypal did), especially take it back in some quick time)?

Whats with the ebay fees? No automatic paying fees option anymore?

Do You receive money on Your bank account from ebay or directly from every single buyer?

Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english .

Have just had the best info from ebay. Both store will shortly be up and running. All the info needed is complete now. It only took 9 days.

It took another 3hrs and 2 live chats with ebay + trying to register.

ebay has set me up with info to make things happen. All I have to do now is to change my bank account info when it happens.

Simple as that. And yes the managed funds issues seems to have the ebay customer service people up to date, on the now of it all now.

There is a huge difference with the info coming out of ebay concerning live chat help with MF.

Now I do not have to stress over this conference happening at lightning speed.

The following public announcement was posted on ebay.com dated July 13, 2020.

Simpler fees start August 12

Simplified fees and new features on managed payments

ebay continues to enhance the managed payments platform, and we have important updates for next month.
Reminder on Simplified Fees:

• Starting August 12, you will pay only an updated final value fee1, consisting of a category-based percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a $0.30 fixed fee per order.
You will not pay separate payments processing fees.
• Fixed fees will apply to each order, rather than each individual item in an order, saving you money when buyers purchase multiple items from you.
• In the event of a refund or cancellation, the variable portion of your final value fees will generally be returned to you, and ebay will retain only the per-order fee.
• Final value fees, and select fees associated with the order will be automatically deducted at the time of the sale, and the rest of your proceeds will be paid out directly to your bank account.
• You can cover the costs of refunds from your bank account or credit card when your pending payout is not sufficient to cover the refund amount.

Watch a short video on fees here and payouts here, or for full updated fee details, click here.
New resources and tools:

• Integrations with top bookkeeping solutions like GoDaddy and QuickBooks
If you use GoDaddy for bookkeeping, you can sync your managed payments reports with GoDaddy bookkeeping services.
If you use QuickBooks Online, Xero, or Sage Business Accounting, you can sync your reports via OneSaas, an integration platform.
Sign up for OneSaas now and you'll receive a lifetime 20% off exclusive ebay discount on any OneSaas subscription package, with a free 7-day trial.
• Comprehensive monthly financial statement - summarizing your ebay payments activity. You can now download this from the Seller Hub.
• Available later this month: Support for charity: You can donate a portion of your sale to your preferred charity. Read more here.
• Coming Soon: Financing options by ebay Seller Capital powered by LendingPoint. Sellers can get fast, flexible, transparent and worry-free financing with no origination or early payback fees.
Updated Seller Protections Policy for payments disputes:

• As part of our commitment to ensure selling and buying on ebay is a fair process, we have updated the seller protections policy for payment disputes. If a seller contests a payment dispute for an order with a total cost (including shipping and taxes) of $750 or more, the seller is now required to provide proof of signature confirmation of delivery, uploaded as an image. For more details on payment disputes and seller protections click here.

So we now have a solicitor that is trying to sort out our mess.

And yes the bank thought we were not good people. Was interesting watching and listening to the solicitor do his stuff to all players. He had all our info +.

The nasty, negative tones and word choices from all players were gone leaving only very humble answers. The no answers were very amusing.

So it is going to cost me $1,000 to get a bank account name changed, if I am lucky.

The cost is not good but as it turns out ebay has done us a big favour getting us to make our business info correct and up to date.

The journey continues!

For the first time in over 6 months, I received an email today encouraging me to opt into managed payments. Note that it was not the forced entry into managed payments that many have reported getting. I wonder if it's because I have numerous coin listings and they still haven't worked that out yet.

Quote:
Managed payments is essential to enhancing the buying and selling experience on ebay, providing sellers one place to sell and get paid, and buyers more ways to pay. ebay will manage payments for most sellers by the end of 2020.

Want more information on how ebay is making your business simpler by managing payments? Learn more on the ebay Seller Center. Additional information on fees is available here.

Let's get you registered in three simple steps:

1. Verify your information
2. Provide a checking account
3. Don't miss a beat and keep selling

Registering now means you'll qualify for additional monthly zero insertion fee listings in selected categories starting August 1, 2020. The number of additional monthly zero insertion fee listings sellers will receive is determined by their ebay Store subscription level. For more information on monthly zero insertion fee listings, please click here.

Once you register, nothing will change until ebay activates your account starting early next year. We will notify you of your activation date well in advance, and will be sharing more information about the change, how it will benefit your business, and how to take full advantage of our new, simpler approach to payments.

Watch a short video on registration here, or find additional details on the Help Hub here. If you still have questions, you can request a call from one of our Payments team members there - we're here for you.

Please click here to register for managed payments now.

*Please disregard this message if you have already registered for managed payments.*

I had no problems signing up for managed payments. I don't see any real advantage or disadvantage. I buy collections at auction, keep what I need for my collections and sell the rest on ebay. I was paying 10% plus fees plus 4% to Paypal. Now I believe I'm paying
13.5% to ebay under managed payments. No major difference here. The only drawback I see is that with Paypal you got paid instantly when a payment was sent. With managed payments everything is pending for at least a day OR on a weekend you won't get a payment credited to your bank until Monday. Is anyone having a problems with this new system ?
The only advantage is to the customer who now has more ways to pay.
I'm sure that glitches will start showing up a time goes by. Thanks for reading my ramblings
Mike

The issues seems to be if you are registered as a business seller.

If your business bank account does not line up with ebay's info you are in trouble big time.

Anyone else here not receive a invite/command to join Managed Payments?

Haven't received anything yet. Only thing I sell are stamps but I used to sell a lot of coins and comics many years ago on ebay. Possible that has something to do with it but who the heck knows..

I gave in under a constant assault of suggestions to join and signed up about a month ago. (I also just sell stamps) I just received my conversion date (in about a week). My sense is that their big push resulted in a lot of conversions and they can only handle so many at a time. So they stopped pushing and will likely restart the push once the current cohort is well and fully in place.
