Rod...
The way I read the stamp, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of Zetkin's birth.

@Rod,
as Calstamp and vayolene point out: the stamps celebrates 100 years from the birth day (centenary of the birth). And that centenary is 1857 - 1957. The dates do not refer to her birthday and day of death. |

Thank you one and all Well, I learnt something today. I always assumed an anniversary emission, would show birth and passing dates. I appreciate your corrections. |

It's a special souvenir sheet (suvenirnyi listok in Russian) issued for a stamp exhibition held in 1972, with no postage validity. Such items were quite popular in the USSR in the 1970-1980s, so thousands of different designs exist that were issued by ph#1096;latelist organizations at different levels, from single cities and towns to thefederal level. What concerns errors in dates of life, here is one: In 1971, the Soviet post commemorates the 90th birth anniversary of William Z. Foster, the Chairman of the US Communist party in 1924-1934. The stamp contained an error in his year of death - 1964 instead of 1961. Some time later, the stamp was re-issued with a correct date: |

Thank you Vayolene, Vica, I have come to the conclusion that (Apart from Vica's error) Russia likes to have the year of emission on it's stamps, and they are to be applauded for that. If the year of emission is otherwise shown on the stamp, then year of passing is also noted, if not, the last year shown is emission year.
