Hello all Stamp Masters,

Could you tell me whether the dark lines in the word "Canada" are Plate/Print errors? Also the left side "1/2" seems to have some dark squiggles.

Would not be an error. Maybe an oddity - picture too small to tell what it could be

Mh, ok.
Unfortunately this site does not allow any uploads above 200kb. I have a very high resolution scan of this...

Hi Wert, The dotted line is a portion of a guide line.

Good eye littleriverphil
Looks like a retouch...I got about 30 mints ones, will have to check.

Robert

Another oddity to look for is a possible (maybe) new re-entry..Look at my vertical pair..Bottom stamp has the oddity.

The link watermark posted above, https://www.re-entries.com/quebecterc_0.5c.html explains those as the "famous" double slipped retouches

Wow thank you all for the Information, very helpful indeed!
I got another 2 questions:
1. What is a "reentry" exactly? How does it happen/form?
2. Are these reentries rare? Or fairly common?

RE-ENTRY

Quote:
A re-entry is a constant plate variety occurring only on steel engraved stamps that shows portions of the design doubled or even tripled, one over the other. It occurs in the same position on every sheet printed from the plate on which the re-entry occurs. It was usually the result of the steel transfer roll being impressed more than once in approximately the same position on the plate from which the stamps were printed. This was done when the soft plates started to show wear after continuous usage. The unhardened steel plates were re-entered under the transfer roll to strengthen the weakened areas in the designs. Some plates, out of necessity, were re-entered more than once, resulting in several 'states.' The original single steel plate for Scott #15, the 5¢ Beaver, for example, was re-entered ten times over its lifetime resulting in eleven different states. During the re-entering process, should the transfer roll not be aligned or registered precisely with the original entry, doubling of the design, or parts of it, will occur.

Not rare..Unitrade price for mint $30.00 - $60.00 (possible $120.00)
..........Unitrade price for used $30.00 - $60.00

Would the irregularities on the left side on this stamp be considered reentry?

Your Scott 146 Newfoundland stamp is probably ink smears...No monetary value added.

The top un-straight frame line is more interest to me.

Your stamp is the original print, not the latter re-engraved print.

What do you think is the significance and cause of the not straight lines on the top?

Got another Tercentenary Issue here.
This time its the #101 10c piece.

The smudge on top, is that just a smear?
Also, the dark background color where the "10" denomination is printed seems to be lighter in spots.
Is that a print error?
