From my wife's pile of inherited ephemera: a 1953 quitclaim deed with a combination of federal and Massachusetts state revenue stamps attached. I believe it's worth maybe $5 on a good day. Any comments are welcome about this material as I know verrrrry little about revenues.
From the State Revenue Society's State Revenue catalog, 2nd Edition edited by Dave Wrisley:
5 cent is D1 and cats at $1 (this copy is damaged) 10 cent is D2 and cats at 50 cents each $1 is D4 and cats at $2 each $10 is D7 and cats at $1.50 each.
If I am not mistaken, the "state" tax rate varies by county. A collection of deeds from different counties would make a nice fiscal history story. I have started collecting deeds from different states and Massachusetts is not the only state with different rates in different counties - Maryland is another.
