My page, still looking for a decently centered and priced 404.

Not as dramatic as the lovely Mint copies, but I seem to have a penchant for precanceled Pan-Pacs.

Completed the set with my last collection purchase at a show just before the world shut down.

BrentAbba, I love the precanceled 400 and the prominent postmark on 404. Used stamps are awesome!

Somehow, the used items have so much more personality to me. I have slowly been assembling a set of the San Francisco precancels in perf 12 and 10. I seem to recall another thread which mentioned all stamp/direction combinations existed for San Francisco + other oddities.

Some other perf 12 precancels:

And some perf 12 perfins front and back:

And a "WP" perfin on a very large 3rd class cover from the Western Pacific Railway Co.:

I have "mint" (NH OG) examples of the 397 & 398 with the SF precancel.

Here is a perf 10 ten center (#404) on cover to Norway from a group of 9 covers I just purchased. These things are much rarer than would be thought from the Scott value on cover ($175).

Here is my set, also on a White Ace page. Centering is not as nice as some, but good enough for me, for now. About half are MNH. Next up are the Trans-Mississippis. I was the under bidder on a very nice copy of Cattle in Storm at the Rasdale auction. Perhaps next time I will be the winner

This seems to be the never ending set for me. I've been the under bidder at least a dozen times trying to finish the Perf 12 set.

Likewise on the San Francisco pre-cancels. The 398 has eluded me for a couple of years. Is it a scarce stamp?

15 or 20 years ago, I found a damaged block of 4 of the 397 on ebay. It was described as OG, hinged, many perf separations, and one stamp with corner missing. That was enough to scare off the bidders. I got it for a song. One of the stamps looked like a gem, so I bid. When it arrived, the stamp that I had my eye on turned out to be NH and completely undamaged. A few years after it arrived, I sent it off to PSE and it got a 98J. Here it is:

It is my only Pan-Pac.

ETA: I paid $63.01 for the block.

With the variety of directions and availability of all denoms with the precancels from San Fran, I wonder if the post office had something set up at the exhibition to use the precancels?

I suppose if you are to have only one of these, it should be a beauty like yours, Mootermutt987. That would tend to set the bar very, very high to getting any others....
