Even told this seller that he may want to remeasure his perfs as this looks to be a perf 10 item (#478 or #460) far worth than the #518 offered at $14.50. He stated he didn't own a perf gauge...hummmm. I stated that he could check with another known example from the era. He thanked me for my honesty, however it still stands. Might be a red flag as he does not take returns. Whatcha think? https://www.ebay.com/itm/3731502152...rms=gh1g%3DI373150215231.N36.S2.typeWATCH_ITEM_ENDING_SOON.R4.TR6

The gum looks iffy to me. That said, I'm no expert at ALL on that but if I were looking to buy this, I'd be questioning if it was actually used. Might not be "mint hinged" |

I guess the first thing that struck me was the larger perf 10 here, but offering it as a #518 perf 11. I don't know very much on distinguishing something reperfed unless it is done very badly. |

Stared at it for awhile and still think something is off - then I realized there was another reply to this thread by rlsny - I'm guessing that is the correct answer. I'm not skilled enough to figure out "what" is wrong with it yet, but it definitely looks iffy and I would be quite hesitant to buy. |

He did add this to his listing: Quote: On Aug-20-20 at 06:42:00 PDT, seller added the following information:
!!!!!! IMPORTANT CHANGE TO THIS LISTING !!!!!!!! Upon further close inspection it has been determined that this stamp is likely a Scott 478 due to perferation 10. |

Regummed and reperfed, as was said above. I suspect it started out as a used (uncancelled) straight-edge-at-top. Now look! It is mint F-VF!!! Good luck to the buyer and anyone down the road who buys his collection. And the guy after that. And so on. |

I see the re-perf and re-gum but I don't see any evidence of cancellation. |

Jack - I was wondering about front of hair and due west in the white oval surround. |

It does have the look of a "skip"...with the grime marks. Also the top of head just into the hairline looks a little bit like a cancel. |

The right and left perforations do not appear to match. While it is not possible to compare left and right sides as rendered from a trapezoidal smart phone photograph, it is possible to carefully compare the left and right perforations visually. The left side seems off. Also, the top left margin and perforations may be thinned. |
