New South Wales 1-D Stanley Gibbons No. 207 - Issue Date

Hi folks,

Could somebody with a current Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth & Empire catalogue please tell me if the issue date for SG207 shows as 4.71 or 8.71?

My copy says 8.71. (2010 catalog)

SG's Australia Catalogue - 2018 edition - also says 8/71.

Yes, it's shown as 207 1d. dull red, P 13 (4.71) in the SG Commonwealth 1840-1970 catalogue 2020 edition.

Since at least 1927 Gibbons have had the issue date of SG207 as August 1871.

Basset Hull, Hutson & Lowe all state April 1871.

I picked this up while doing my research and advised SG and they rightfully asked for evidence of an example dated between April and August.

Then this pair turned up.






You can clearly see the W of the watermark on the left (as you're looking at it in the photo) stamp.

I'm in the process of writing a monologue on the NSW DLR stamps and will post it here (but not all at once!) when done.

That cancel is my favourite Sydney cancel. I have a 1d pair dated May 1871 but they have the single-lined 1 watermark.
