- 2d Die II BW 92(4)e (or possibly 92(3)f) / SG 96 Variety not listed in SG catalogue
- Variety left half of cross on crown is missing above the frame line
- Difficult to determine between the two without compartment lines
- (4)e has a compartment line just above the remaining half of cross and a coloured dot (which may be a remnant of the cross) above the missing part
- (3)f has a dot north-west of the left hand corner of the cross
- These compartment lines are not commonly seen
- (4)e was subsequently re-entered and exhibited:
- An ink-less shading line between the crown and the right wattle (eighth shading line counting down)
- Shading lines above wattle are thickened
- There may be inkless shading lines between LIA and the wattle bloom, and between that bloom and the right frame
- These varieties are not listed in ACSC
- (4)h is Plate 4, Left Pane, Position 53 (4L53)
- (3)f is Plate 3, Right Pane, Position 30 (3R30)
- BW 91 (4)e and (3)f exhibit the broken crown variety

Thanks, Dianne. Yes, I have always found that the sanitized images in catalogues and studies a bit unhelpful, and it helps to see an image of the complete stamp. Often there is a subsidiary flaw that nails the identification where the main flaw is common to two or more positions. The BW 92(4)e/(3)f above is a case in point but as yet that is still unresolved. But I have benefitted from more experiences flaw-masters and at BSAP in a number of cases during the life of this topic. This Frank. |
