JK , these were probably purchased on approval ,but now maybe more value as a novelty than singles value. |

I wonder if there would be value in at least putting cuts in the wrapping to let air in. I doubt those plastic wraps were considered as being good for archiving. |

How about using them as-is in a one-frame (or more) exhibit on the history of the stamp approval business? If I had these, I would select representative items that tell the story over time, and keep them sealed as exhibit items, then dispose of any duplicates - open and mount the rest of the items or give them away to a beginner, youth, or club. |

I like the display ideas, like duck stamps are. The On-Approval system and packages were a slick successful marketing in it's day, decades. |

"On approval" means that the dealer sends you a variety of stamps to look at. You pay for the ones you want to keep and send back the rest. |

There are still a number of active and seemingly prosperous approval dealers. |

Don - my bad: I looked for "on approval" like "on paper" so didn't see it.
BTW, isn't sending a scan more cost-effective than sending stamps to and fro? |

Quote: BTW, isn't sending a scan more cost-effective than sending stamps to and fro? Approval dealers want you to have the stamps in hand so you're more likely to make impulse buys. Much more likely you'll buy the car after a test drive vs. buying after looking at pictures online. |

Shermae, and others, do you know if anyone who tried to ask the "on approval" dealers to send scans? I understand the dealers' logic, that the customer's stagnant tendency is "if it's already here, I might as well accept it and save time and money of mailing back". But that's not in the best interest of the collector. |
