I have done approvals for a long time but I remember you could ask for specific countries. I would request countries that I have no or very little stamps of.

BTW, isn't sending a scan more cost-effective than sending stamps to and fro?

That might be a viable alternative nowadays, but it certainly wasn't when I was getting approvals as a kid back in the 1970s.

Even so, a scan still might not reveal all the flaws or the true colors of the item.

Shermae, and others, do you know if anyone who tried to ask the "on approval" dealers to send scans?

I have only limited experience with approvals and for the most part this was before people started actively sharing images through email.

The whole point of approvals is to provide the customer with a chance to evaluate the stamps in hand. To me, that is much better than trying to ascertain condition via scans. You have NO obligation to buy and can always send notes with your returns to explain why certain stamps didn't meet your needs. This would help the seller to home in on your preferences in future approval selections.

And, as an approval dealer I think it would quickly become annoying to send scans to a customer only to have repeated rejections based on the images. It takes a lot more time and work to make up images then it takes to simply send the stamps out on approval. But you could always ask.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of dealers (including Mystic) sell stamps via scans. It's called on-line shopping.
