Recently obtained as part of an Austrian lot this nice small cover with Austria Offices in Crete stamp (Scott 8b), mailed from Jerusalem by a Jacob Bohn (sp?) to L Rosenheimer in Easton PA in 1906. No contents.
Intrigued by the use of an Austria post in Crete stamp on a cover mailed from Jerusalem (which would typically use an Austria Offices Abroad in Turkey (Ottoman Empire) stamp). I recall reading somewhere that this sometimes occurred.
My question to those more knowledgeable - is this a common, or relatively rare usage of Austria offices in Crete abroad stamps? Were stamps of both currencies (French centimes or Turkish piastres) sold at Austria post offices throughout the Levant?

Thanks! Greg
