This shipment appears to have left Indianapolis twice. Can't wait to see if it gets delivered twice.

Funny. My guess is that it was double scanned on the way out.

USPS tracking is a joke lately. I had an item arrive 4 times at an intermediary stop if you can believe the scans. I'm just happy items get scanned and make it to the destination in a reasonable time. I've had items mailed and not show in tracking for days before someone finally does a scan and the computer gets updated.

This happens when an internal staffer scans it in prep for leaving the facility, then later the driver scans it again on the way out.

The post office would often be better served by keeping all this interim tracking data internal and let clerks access it when there is an actual problem.

It looks like the time it took to be scanned upon arrival and upon ready for departure from sorting, almost 5 hr; and then another 3 1/2 hours before it left on the truck. Whatever happened to the automated sorting devices that were to move the mail at a torrid pace?

USPS tracking is indeed a joke if desired for actual transit information. It is really just a claims tool now in the event of loss. The USPS has some serious problems that keep getting worse. Let us see if it can be fixed or if the can continues to get kicked down the road.

The item is simply being scanned twice at a facility, it may not have even moved out of the container it is in.
For example, say there is a container that has 100 parcels in it, they think they will load it into the 9AM truck so the container gets scanned (the container scan includes all 100 parcels labels) and is designated for loading. But they find that there is not enough room on the 9AM truck so it gets set aside. The container then gets scanned for the 1PM truck. The result is that it the parcel tracking label shows both scans at same facility and gives old men something to chat about.

I think that if we weren't chatting about slow mail, then we would just be sitting around talking about the weather!!
