They're pretty hungry at the currently running Dutch Country Auction. So far I'm 1 out of 5. The one's I gave up on were way over estimate and at the time it made no sense to stay in the bidding frenzy. Of course, there's always that 20-20 hindsight sensation of remorse for not staying the course (tempered somewhat by making the other guy pay more LOL).
Plenty more lots coming up and there's always tomorrow...back into the fray I go...

It would be interesting to compare what value, besides entertainment value, comes out of Mr. H's $1200 carton lot purchase. It may say something about whether or not a dealer could have made money on it. Seems like a stretch given that a dealer has costs to contend with before profit comes into play. A lot of these realizations seem just silly to little old me.

I lost all my bids at Rasdale, but picked up one lot at Dutch Country today, just one lot, but it's 10 large boxes. That should keep me out of trouble for a bit after I tell the wife at some point.

My technique - tell my wonderful spouse ahead of time I may spend quite a bit more than I actually plan to at an upcoming auction (e.g. 2X). Then I end up only spending X. Everyone's happy!

I try playing the 'you know that I have cancer and might not live much longer' story but that only worked for a couple of times…now she just laughs at me.

Even when I lie on the floor and act like I died when she comes home, she now just kicks me as she steps over me and tells me 'get off the floor moron'.
Don

I bought the lot in the hopes of getting my collection caught up and filling in holes. Before Covid I hadn't really the time to do anything with it for about the last 20 years, so I'm a bit behind.
Eventually, I will be selling the remainders on ebay. I would be happy to break even.
Pulled out a random handful this afternoon and came out with about a dozen US duck stamps including RW3 and a mint copy of RW37. There were also a number of State Hunting Stamps, some mint, which will all go into my collection.

Just take what you don't want and make Priority Box lots. I usually get about $100 per box for leftovers. You can make several Priority Boxes from a bankers box.

I will certainly keep posting on the findings. At the moment I'm trying to sort it into some type of manageable order. As you might expect everything was dumped into the boxes in no particular order. So far, I have three cartons (15x13x13) of loose stamps, one carton of ziplock bags of mixtures, one and a half cartons of single county glassines and envelopes (to be sorted later by country), half a carton of US, and half a carton of Canada. Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, and Great Britain are the most prevalent, but I've seen just about everything. At some point I'll see if I can get a country count.

"Patter"
Had to check, only knew it in reference to feet or rain.

continuous and sometimes funny speech or talk, especially used by someone trying to sell things.

My mind is drawn to "storage wars"
