Why Does The Backing Paper On Self Adhesive Stamps Have A Wavy Cut Pattern?

I think it makes it easier to remove the stamp

We tried removing the stamps from the edge, the center, etc. it didn't seem to make a difference.

If the backing paper is properly cut, bending the stamp slightly will raise an edge of the backing and make the stamp easy to remove.

Just a thought.
Would these be booklets?
Australian SA rolls do not require die cutting.
How were booklets produced?
Perhaps to facilitate production if on a drum.
