Bolivia Help Needed

Hi,

I have some Bolivia stamps I am unable to identify.
My year 2000 Scott Vol 1 catalog shows a picture of what they look like as Type A161 (in the 1966 year section of Bolivia, but the Scott cat only seems to list them as surcharged with new values: # 488 - 491.

The ones I have are value 30cts, 50 cts, 1 Bs, and 2 Bs and they are not surcharged or have anykind of overprint/new value.

Any ideas?

That's them. But are they postage stamps or some kind of tax stamp? I guess some sort of revenue stamp.
What catalog is that description from?
Any values?

My image and note were taken directly off a Scott catalogue. There is no other info about them.
I cannot vouch for their having actually been used for local revenue purposes as I personally have never seen any of them on Bolivian documents. But then again, all the documents I ever translated were from the late 60s and early 70s (birth, baptism, marriage, death certificates, etc.) and those are not the type of stamps one would expect to find on such documents. Sorry, not much help.

The Beni issue is called an "Obligatory postage stamp".
Any stamp issued that is required by law or other governing rules to be applied to any mailed item, above & beyond regular postage stamp. These could be an additional charge or even free.

So, these are on a par with the Berlin "Blue Fleas"?

I would suggest that the 30c, as an obligatory tax stamp, would indeed be the same as the Berlin "flea". The others in the series would be classed as revenues only.

Does anyone have a Barefoot revenues catalogue for South America?

The set of six is listed as numbers SA1-SA6 in the Hilchey and Akerman Catalog of Bolivia Revenues. Stamps were printed in 1946 The explanation is simply "Local tax issue: the 30 centqavos was used, among other pruposes, for a postal tax on mail to and form the (Beni) Department.
