Questions About Watermarks And Identifying A Few Stamps

Hi everybody,

Just trying to identify these stamps with watermarks. Can you help me?




A stamp Perf 12 seems Scott 300 but is watermark the 191?

B stamp Perf 12 seems Scott 331 with 191 watermark

C stamp Perf 10 seems Scott 425 with 190 watermark

D stamp Perf 12 not sure about watermark is Scott 335 or 378?

E stamp Perf 10 cant see any watermark so I suppose it's Scott 463?

The first stamp you listed as A can only be 300. There is no other watermark on the issue.

here are two sources for good references: stampsmarter.com and the reference section of the Scott catalog.
that said I think you are ok with a, (only way it comes), b appears to be a single line wmk to me, c is a nice example of the single line wmk. d appears to be a double line to me (check out the lower left corner again) and e is unwatermarked. hope this helps.

Item C has a very odd shaped "S" it looks more like an upside down "5". Never seen that.

Item A paper clip, item E thin.

A seems scott 300 with double line watermark

B seems scott 374 with single line watermark

C seems scott 425 with single line watermark

D I doubt here if it is single or double

and E seems no watermark, so scott 463

By the way, what do you mean, bookbndrbob, with clip paper and thin?

For item A, the scan shows a darkened area which approximates a crimp mark that could be made by a paper clip. I don't know how the pic was made, so it could conceivably be a sharp shadow made by a crimp or indentation.

For item E, the darkened area and the compromised perforations of that corner appear (to my eyes) to be a large thin spot.

Stamp A: The images are squeezed-in from the sides. At a normal HxW ratio, is is clearly a "U", rather than a paperclip or other damage.
