France Sc#290 With New-Yor(K?) Cancellation

Posting this here in the hopes that someone can tell me about this cancellation... I came across a France Scott 290 with a "New-Yor" postmark.

While I'm certainly no expert, I'd assume that this was not applied by an American post office, and the hyphen between 'New' what what's likely 'York' is not standard practice in the US.

Anyone able to shed some light on this? Thanks!

Most likely a maritime cancel : "Le Havre a New-York"

Related to Vayolene's reply: might have been a paquebot item. Mail posted on board a ship with stamps of the ship's home country, cancelled upon arrival at a foreign destination.
