This stamp was labeled in the collection as 2L3, however the Scott catalog only shows a black stamp and not a blue one. However, there is a foot note in the catalog stating "Some students claim that a 1c in blue on white wove paper exists as originals". Any thoughts here?

The stamp was reprinted in blue - valued at $3 in the 2007 Lyons Pricing Guide for Unlisted Carriers, Locals, Fakes Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the The United States. The stamp is also widely faked in blue, but the fakes are more valuable than the reprints.

To add to SPQR, if you are going to do anything with carriers/locals, the Scott catalog is useless and you MUST get Larry Lyons 3 volume set mentioned above. It isn't cheap, but will more than pay for itself in short order.

In addition to the 3 volume Identifier and the Lyons Pricing Guide, check out the website for the Carriers and Locals Society. Under References, you can find a growing group of various forgeries and fantasy issues organized by name of post. Also, on the PDF Downloads page, you can do a full Google-based word search on all the issues of the Penny Post (except the most recent 5 years are for members only.)
