It looks like a misspelling in the taxonomy on the lower stamp - there is no such thing as a Bodianus coxozonus ...

Thanks KHJ - That is my web site I am trying to find out if ALL the spelling errors were overprinted, and if the Bodianus coxozonus stamp is an overprinted omitted error, as the partial sheet I have has some damage in the margins and gutters as if the sheet above had been stuck to it. Here is a block of the overprinted issue for Taipei '96: |

The set was originally scheduled for release on July 1,1992, but a spelling error on the 45c value was discovered after the stamps arrived in Tuvalu. Part of the scientific name was misspelled coxozonus instead of loxozonus (Good eye Ryan).
The set went on sale on July 15 after the corrected reprints arrived. It is unclear why the original error stamps were never destroyed. They stayed in Tuvalu and used for the 1996 Taipei Stamp Show overprints.
It is still unclear on who printed the overprints, but they were probably done in Fiji. However, non-overprinted stamps with the spelling error have been seen mint and used, but are scarce.
This fish set was the first definitive series of Tuvalu after the demise of the country's previous philatelic agents and the not-so-secure Format International Printers, controlled, by Clive Feigenbaum.
Tuvalu produced this issue without any agent, dealing directly with the artist Derek Miller and the printers, House of Questa. |

Wow! indeed a nice site Brian, and an impressive webmaster to boot. I emailed you 11th June 2009 regarding what I thought was a forged opt. You replied promptly and I was very impressed :) Bravo!

Rod, I checked back to see your email and it was about Specimen overprints. While yours appeared genuine, forgeries do exist, most created when they had some value in the 1980's, and most on definitives. |

I finally found a used copy of the Tuvalu coxozonus spelling error. The oval cancellation is from Nukulaelae, one of the outer islands of Tuvalu. |
