I'm looking for the rough dimensions of the Roman States 1852 Papal Arms series. I have some of the stamps (likely not genuine), but not all of them. Pictures I have seen don't help as there seems to be a couple of odd shapes. Any help would be appreciated.

Measurements aren't going to help you.
Post a few clear and large images here and I would think that the folks here at SCF can help you. |

I know the stamps are imperforate. I want the rough measurements so I can create an album page with spaces that match the stamp dimensions with additional room for use of mounts (I add 4mm to both height and width). |

What you say makes no sense. If you have the stamp, you already have the dimension.Imperf or perfed. |

Italian States Modena 1852 Steiner has boxes at 24mm x 29mm You may wish to add 2 mm to each side perhaps.

I don't have all the stamps and the Steiner boxes are not necessarily accurate because one of the stamps I do have (6B) is not the same shape and I don't think it's a problem with the stamp. The stamp I have is more horizontal as indicated by picture in Scott and on web and the Steiner box is more vertical. Another example is that the 5B appears to be narrower and shorter than other verticals, but the Steiner boxes are the same for all the verticals. That's why I'm asking for help with the rough dimensions from anyone who might actually have the entire set from 1852. I want to create a more accurate page with spaces that more closely match actual dimensions. |

Ah, but if you have forgeries, the sizing may not reflect that of the genuine examples. Search some better auction houses to see if the real ones have anything like what you are seeing. (Ghiglione maybe?) |

Thanks everyone for replies so far. The only thing that will help is getting measurements from folks who actually have the stamps, genuine or not. I did find a picture of an old page from a German album that clearly shows varying size frames across the set. I can use it for estimates, but that's about it.
From what I can tell so far...
1/2B is wider than 1B and 3B, but similar height
1B and 3B are similar
2B is shorter than 1B, but similar width
4B is taller than 1B but is not as wide
5B is similar in height to 4B but is not as wide
6B seems same height as 4B and same width as 1/2B, but it might simply be same dimensions as 1B because it doesn't have the parallel line borders
7B is taller than 4B but not as wide
8B is similar to 4B
50B seems same height as 4B but much wider
1SC seems same height as 7B and wider still than 50B
Where I say things differ, it is usually 2mm. But it's hard to tell without actual representative stamps to compare. |
