Is anyone attending the FDOI ceremony in Santa Fe NM? The ceremony is taking place at a New Mexico Heritage Musuem.

Bill's WWII cartoon characters Willie and Joe have been previously honored by the USPS in 1993 in the WWII 1943 50th Anniversary 29 cent issue Scott #2765h. That would make a great Combo cover. Plus the FD city is a Route 66 community, bonus for me.

I am considering breaking copyright and making 1 cover for myself using Mauldin's cartoon depicting Abraham Lincoln crying in front of the Lincoln Memorial, as a cachet, that printed the day after JKF was assassinated. I would be gettin an unofficial FD postmark in Springfield IL. Of course, that is if they have the stamps at the PO.

Here are the 2 cachets I came up with for my covers. Sorry about the blurriness. One features his Lincoln weeping cartoon and the other ties into Route 66. Santa Fe, NM the FDOI city is on 66, plus Bill worked in Chicago and St. Louis.

I ordered a couple panes for general use from the cave today.

Another Rt 66 city. It must be about time for you to put up an exhibit!

Greg, I don't think 2 covers would make a very good exhibit. Especially, since both of these are unofficial FD postmarks. I did mail off a set of 2 for the FDOI b/w cancel today. I used the Bill Mauldin stamp on the outer cover as well. Maybe they will send it back to me if they notice.
