Hi, this lovely old yellow stamp from Norway caught my eye for the nice clear numbered cancel. But my first question is whether it is sufficiently preserved to live up to the corresponding value ( ebay suggests approx. 70 euros). Secondly, the numbered cancel: any guidance how to value that or find information to what it means?
I cannot give you information about the cancel. The condition greatly diminishes it's value. It has a damaged UL corner, a scuff or paper adhesion in the LR corner and is poorly centered. I cannot see the back obviously.
The number represents a post office. 364 is for Christiania bypost, and is rated "rare" in an old FACIT catalog. I don't know how that translates in value.
Facit's value on that cancel only refers to it's use on Norway #1, I believe because it wasn't placed in use until nearly the end of the life of that issue. The 2 skilling Oscar wasn't issued until the end of January 1857, two full years after the first issue. My guess is the Christiania Bypost was pretty darn common on the later issues, at least until that canceller was retired.
