Hello all Stamp Masters,
I got myself a Oldenburg #1 1/30th piece, that is affixed to a cover piece and has the "Oldenburg" cancellation off the stamp.

According to this website: http://www.forgeries.info/countries/oldenburg.php

It should be a Type 1.
It also says there are no forgeries, although I find that hard to believe.

So my question is:
Do forgeries exist for this type?
And does this piece look authentic or not?

Thanks!

"The Serrane Guide", English version published by the APS in 1998 notes on page 132, collectively about #1-4: "Old and modern forgeries: a detailed study of all the the counterfeits would in itself furnish enough material for a small book: there are about fifteen different counterfeits, half of which exist in complete sets!", but provides no specific detail. The bibliography does list additional sources.

You've misread the website. It says "no forged stamps found" by the author and not "No forged stamps".

In the Serrane Guide, it does illustrate the genuine types, so that's one point to check, and you have. It also notes that in the 1/30t, the "1" touches the hem of the drapery above.

With the fineness of detail in your stamp, I am pretty confident that it is genuine. It looks the same as the one shown in the website noted, though there is no expert mark or certificate noted there. I've seen some rough forgeries for the imperfs. Now Sperati could reproduce the original's quality, but it would be an example with four giant margins and probably a rare cancel besides. If someone has the Sperati book, please check if you would if he ever forged this. I don't have my photocopies at hand (%$#**!).

The paper color looks right.

As for the piece or postmarks being faked, that's very doubtful. For one, mint stamps even without gum are worth more than used UNLESS someone was trying to disguise a thinned stamp. The markings here are common enough. And the repaired cut is beyond what forgers would do who would not want to downgrade their work and get less money.

Note my avatar image of a Hanover stamp. The stamp checks out as far as I can determine, but the cancel is awfully light. But for that stamp also, a mint copy without gum is worth more than the used one I have. And like yours, I think it's not worth sending in for expertizing.

The stamp looks genuine. This issue has 4 Types, yours is Type 1. As already mentioned the unused stamp is worth more than either a used one or used on cover. What does the entire cover look like?

Thanks for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated.
@hy-brasil:
Indeed I misread the Website. I'm glad to hear that it looks genuine. It is definitely a nice piece for me, as I'm just getting started with the Pre-German confederation issues.
I recently purchased the Oldenburg 1/15th and 1/10th pieces as well, with nice margins, on cover cutouts like this one, and will post scans once I receive them.

@Germania
Regarding the cover: This is a cutout from the cover. Unfortunately it is not a full cover.

An attractive piece to be sure. That site looks to be quite useful for first issue forgeries.

In German it is "dezember"
The abbreviation should not be "Dez." and not "Dec."?

It is a FRANCOcancel.
The boxed Oldenburg & date were introduced in 1841,pre-philatelic era.So it was of late usage.

Hello again,

As promised here are the two pieces I received recently.
It is the 1/10th and the 1/15th.

What are your opinions on these pieces?
Fine enough to be genuine?

They both look good. The 1/15 Thaler is a Type I.
