Have been reflecting on how ebay has trained me to do business on-line with them.

Had no business experience in the area of selling anything until ebay came into my life.

ebay has taught me how to communicate on-line with my customers with a big stick ready to bash me if I do the "wrong thing".

They have taught me how to deal with very upset people because of feedback hanging over the top of my head as well.

They have put me into a position where I can communicate with buyers and understand their needs are just so important.

Marketing is another area that ebay has taught me by the simple fact are your items selling or not.

Still learning how to run my office properly. But ebay has my monthly sales records ready for me each month to make sure am on track.

Am very sure there are other things as well. ebay has done so much for me.

There is a political leader of very recent times. He did many things but what I want to highlight is one of his thoughts without any judgment made or without any purely political statements or intent.

But to me he said one huge thing that has turned my life around and it is....

"If you open a door and it does not work just open another door till it does work."

Simple but very powerful. My choice!

Or there's "When one door closes, another slams shut in your face", as the recently deceased football manager Tommy Docherty put it.

Thanks Geoff. Good one!

Another is a business only closes because they shut their doors.

Strength through pain can work, KGV. In the '80s, I stopped running record shops, where we had a "go forth and multiply" approach to difficult customers, and moved on to an unprofitable eighteen months in financial services. Financially unhappy, but it cleared a lot of cobwebs out of my head in terms of dealing with people. With ebay, you soon learn to be honest about what you're selling, to provide a fast, friendly service and to sort out problems - and we all make mistakes - immediately and generously. As you say, it's a good education.
