I have a quick question that someone may be able to answer. I found this overprint on a stamp in some material I was sorting and tried a quick google search for its significance but did not have much luck. I have the feeling that I have seen it somewhere before, possibly in Belgium, but cannot track that down either. Can anyone tell me what it was used for? Did it simply create a revenue stamp? An emergency Postage Due?

Thanks all. Confirms mt suspicion that they might be postage due usages. Annoying when the only easily available catalogue, Scott, does not list this.

You'll find these on stamps of Belgian Congo, Ruanda-Urundi and Belgian occupation of German East Africa.
There are Steiner pages for them, but I don't know why they're not listed in Scott.
