Rod

I just found a reference online regarding the Panama Railroad perfin. The information, originally published in 1961 by the Canal Zone Postal Service, explained the conversion of the earlier perfin cancel rPr to P.

"The perforated "P'' was made by a Panama Railroad die which was originally "RPR". The small Rs" were burnished off at the Mechanical Division Shops at Balboa . When used on stamps, the letter "P" was punched through the stamps by folding the sheets along the perforated edges of the stamps and punching several thicknesses at a time...."

Thank you once again for your assistance.

Very nice item. The overprint is red because the stamp is black. Needed to be some contrast in color so the overprint was visible.

I have all of the Canal Zone overprinted US postage stamps and a few of the postage dues, which is my next area of focus. Here are numbers 4-8 and 70-96 mounted on a 1947 Scott album page. Includes both printings of #80.
