This album with black, quadrilled pages was discontinued some time ago, and searches on eBay have come up blank (pun not intended).

Does anyone know of any of these pages being sold by any dealers in the US or the UK, or of any comparable blank pages offered by a different producer?

These are the ones I use. Same size, but the tissue is loose, rather than attached to the edge of the page.

Thank you GeoffHa ! I just looked at the website and will probably order an entire album with a pack of extra pages.
I'm just going to hold off for a bit to see if anyone comes up with a supplier here in the US (to save on shipping).
Thanks again !

A pleasure. I'd say that the binders, which are made by Lighthouse, are better than the late-period SG Nubians, but not as attractive as the original cloth-bound versions. I've also hole-punched leaves - they just about fit in a Lighthouse Grande binder.

Definitely worth over-ordering - black leaves are so unforgiving if you make a mess of them!

I'm curios as to how you place any annotations , if any, on the black pages, this being my first attempt at using this format.
I recall my father, who used black pages for his photographs, would use a white pencil and this showed up nicely on the black background.
Labels? I could use my label maker with white printing on a black background, I suppose. It would be nice if white ink were available for my Rapid-o-graph pen, having used black ink on many a white page, as old-fashioned as that may be.
Cheers,
George

I use a white gel pen - this sort of thing

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drawing-Ar...bGljaz10cnVl

There are a few of my pages in danko's thread here

http://goscf.com/t/70753

In the '60s, it was a dip-pen and a bottle white ink. Imagine what an adolescent boy made of that!

Those pages are breath-taking. What a beautiful display! Now I'll never be able to look at my Senator Standards in the same way again LOL.
I did the dip ink thing too when I was growing up in London, using an italic nib. Once I got older, I had to redo them all since much of the notations looked like Rorschach blots. That's when I started to use my Rapid-o-Graph pens, also with India ink.
Thanks for the link to the gel pens !

One more question (sorry): Are you using clear or black mounts for your stamps? It looks like they were clear, but I couldn't tell for sure.

I use clear, where I use mounts, but you can get away with black-backed. I mainly use hinges for used, unless I'm in a neurotic or lazy state.

Most of my stuff's on white quadrille in old Gibbons binders.

I might have a crack at the Rapid-O-Graph, although I have a bunch of old fountain pens that will see me out.

I guess this is a really dumb question, but, why are they called Nubians?

Historic ethnographic term regarding the inhabitants of southern Egypt/northern Sudan. Whose skin pigmentation was dark.

Pertains to color of album pages.

Life is good! Lookee what I found: white permanent ink for my Rapidograph. From hereon in, no more blank white pages for me!

"I guess this is a really dumb question, but, why are they called Nubians?" It might be helpful to note that "Nubia" was a place, a region of ancient Egypt "up" the Nile, meaning going south toward Sudan. The people who lived that much farther south in Africa were much darker-skinned than Egyptians, so "Nubian" meant a dark-skinned person, as CalStamp says. That term was once sometimes used for things dark or black in general, although that usage is a little old-fashioned today, more a 19th century term than a modern one. Using a racial term today to describe a dark object isn't what I'd call the most modern way of speaking and might get you some funny looks. I don't think SG calls its white pages "Caucasian" pages, if you see what I mean. That's a joke, but it points out how odd this term might seem today.

In any case, Shaubek also sells black album pages. The ones linked above to Dauwalders stamp shop in the UK look very good, but since they're for springback albums, I'm pretty sure they're not hole-punched in any way. You could hole punch them yourself, I suppose, but Shaubek pages are hole-punched for their six-hole ring binders or their 2-post binders, if you want to use one of those. They have a very good website, their pages are not very expensive, and they do ship to the U.S. I've had them ship me blank pages a few times without any problem. U.S. distributors of Schaubek pages stick to their Caucasian (oops!) pages, not their black pages. Black album pages make for a very good looking album, and I'm surprised that so few collectors use them. Maybe it's the apparent difficulty of writing on the pages that puts people off. And there's also no way to have page layouts printed on them, of course, so they have to be treated as blank pages.

Have fun!

DrewM ~ SG no longer makes or carries the Nubian albums, although I have no clue if this is due to lack of interest or political correctness.

I've seen the Shaubek black, blank pages and although the fact that they are punched is a definite plus, the deal-killer for me is that they aren't quadrille which the pages from Dauwalders are. Since I grew up in the UK, the vast majority of blank albums are spring-backs (SG Senator, etc) so I'm pretty used to that format.

As far as writing on them goes, a rapid-o-graph with white ink does a pretty good job, although I'm going to experiment with my printer to see how white or gold lettering shows up, and there's always my trusty label maker which I'm trying out as well.

You are right in that black pages make for a terrific visual! If I was younger, I'd convert all of my blanks into that format in a heartbeat!

Not on the UK Gibbons web site, and emailing them around one-year ago I was told they were no longer in production or sold. Meanwhile, clicking on your link gets me this:

...so I'm thinking I'll pass LOL. If you're site is legit, they may just have a bunch of left overs as Nubian pages do occasionally appear for sale on eBay (at insane mark-ups).

In my experience, the Schaubek black pages aren't a substitute for those offered by Dauwalder's. The ones I had were made of thick card - 240 gsm - not really amenable to use in an album for mounting stamps - better for covers, postcards etc.
