I think this is a Belgian revenue, but very unfamiliar with foreign revenues. How does one figure out something which one can't find in Scott is a revenue?

Look at the words at the top Fiscale and Taxes. Looks very much like a revenue stamp. I have a catalog of BENELUX revenues and will see if it is listed. catalog is not at my fingertips. Later.

I'd suggest posting this in the world BoB forum, might have more people who might be able to help there.

In the Barefoot BENELUX catalog your stamp is the bottom half of Fiscales 366 from the 1947 issue, so a general documentary revenue. For the complete stamp Barefoot gave a value of 20 pence in 1987.

1) Go to Google and type in "Belgium revenue stamps" and a page will come up, then click on the IMAGES tab at the top of the page. All kinds of pictures of Belgium revenues will come up.

2) Go to ebay and click on the "Stamps" category. Type in "Belgium revenue" and all kinds of pictures of Belgium revenues will come up.

I use both of these methods.

Hope this helps you,
Linus

If it has a signature and / or a date it is bound to be a revenue, or at least used as one?

I should have been on this site years ago! Thanks for the very informative answers.

In general, would I start looking at the possibility I have a revenue if the item doesn't show up in Scott's?

Future posts on internationals, I promise, will go in the correct topic. Just flailing around finding my way still.
