In 1962, Italy issued a pictorial postmark that commemorated 100-years of Poste Italiane. Both Rome and Muggia are listed in the marking and I was wondering (hoping) if anyone knows if Italy's first postal stagecoach route ran between the two, or what if any postal relationship exists.
DOCGFD ---To answer your question ,from looking at the use of both the stagecoach and the symbol of the horn. You need to research the THURN UND TAXIS POST postal system it was working in Italy from 1806 to 1867 which overlaps the dates on the cancel you show .
Muggia is a town south of Trieste. A service from there to Rome does not seem likely. Trieste will have been a regional centre. A route to Rome also passes Venice.
The mailcoach and posthorn appear in all cancellations.
...doesn't stretch far enough south to see Rome. A little creative interpolation makes me think a route did extend down that way. The route between Mugia and Brindisi seems a bit more likely.
