Welcome Cowboy; native Floridian here. We just had a small show in Tampa and from what Cal said, think the Florex show in Orlando is a go this year. Might be a hike for you from the panhandle, but always a pretty good show.
You'll find that buying online is pretty much the norm though. I'd suggest spending some time in the e-commerce forum; you'll learn lots there. Also, just ask questions. You'll find lots of help as well.
Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.
