I received the following from Canada's most authoritative expert on Canada/BNA Fakes & Forgeries - Ken Pugh. I asked if he would mind if it was posted here - he agreed.

Quote:
There is a problem with a large collection of OHMS perfins that are presently on the market. Examination by myself, and 4 other OHMS experts have determined there is a high percentage of fakes (i.e. bad certs), and they are VERY good fakes, much better than the fakes that originated in Vancouver and Alberta in the 1980's.

The seller has not accepted our experience and findings (bad certs), and I worry that these fakes will not be dealt with in an appropriate manner meeting CSDA standards. If you have been, or are being offered Canadian OHMS perfins, strong in high value missing perfin rows, unrecorded positions, double perfed etc, please get in touch with me ***email address removed***.

Do insist that they be certified in Canada. I recommend The VG Greene, or myself. There is good material out there being sold by reputable dealers and auctioneers, but these fakes are worrysome. Check to see if your seller has and uses my reference 5A - Genuine and Faked OHMS, or other BNAPS references from Tomasson or Johnson. A Wrigley's listing is not good enough.

I agree nothing noticeable, maybe a overlay would reveal something.
Hey wert, maybe yours is a fake also.

Cheers, Bill

Wert:

Where in my message does it say that the image I included was a fake? No where. Do not make assumptions.

The image (taken from the Unitrade catalogue) was used for reference purposes to let readers, who are unfamiliar with what 'OHMS' means, see just what the topic/message was all about.

Didn't think I had to point out that; guess so.

Can I ask why the particular seller in question is not being identified? Or, if not comfortable disclosing that in this forum, is that info obtainable otherwise? That would certainly help those of us who collect OHMS perfins.

I thought your title "Fake Canada Ohms Perfins" was in reference to the picture you posted....Guess it is my mistake....Thanks again for the kind words.

What would be a good stamp to have such a perf in on?

Thanks for the info!

But the two perfins you posted are not a perfect example for the guys "being good".

Just take a look at the first five vertical holes of the "H". That's more than a little difference, and every perfin collector of Danish NB/V or Italian BCI stamps would be happy to find such simple identification hints. ;-)

gmot:

Sorry, I do not know who the seller is. When I spoke with Ken last week he was not a liberty to say (at that time).

Ken did mention that he has identified 34 different checks to determine good vs. bad OHMS perfins. I do not have enough OHMS material to make any kind of determination myself.

Unfortunately, the e-mail address I gave for Ken was removed when the original message was posted here. Otherwise readers could contact him directly (which was one of the reasons behind posting the alert here).

Thank you Robin (editor). Not currently buying OHMS material but this is a very useful heads-up for all Cdn collectors, appreciated.

I am sorry if I do not understand this at all. There are fakes on the market and the seller is known but is unnamed?
