I'm looking for a good source to purchase East German stamps from. I need about 40 - 50 to complete my collection on Scott pages. I don't know when I'll feel comfortable going to a show again so I thought I'd try mail order. I've been looking on Hipstamp but I prefer buying them all from one vendor to avoid a multitude of shipping and handling fees. If anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it. Thank You.

R. Schneider will have all of them but as a specialist dealer his pricing is higher.

Best chance would be a German source. I think they tend to be less prone to give big discounts on catalogue prices, i.c. Michel. However, if you want to fill those gaps by paying a little more, you might try the German ebay site. The postage may be a little higher than buying from an American source, but the probability of finding a single source and save by avoidong multiple sendings might make it an option. You might want to convert Scott to Michel before you do that.

Before trying any European site, make sure that your stamps can get to the US since transportation to the US is remains sparse. Also, most European countries are still in some form of lockdown due to COVID, which could cause delays in a vendor getting to the local post office.

You can find more dealers on the web site of the American Stamp Dealers Association ( www.americanstampdealer.com ).

I am experiencing no delays whatsoever with normal European mail. Only registered mail is delayed by one or two weeks. Oddly, registered mail from Russia is arriving within record time. Also normal mail from the USA arrives within a week.

What is a post office?

I don't believe anyone has suggested the APS StampStore yet.

I just went and checked, and you do not need to be a member in order to buy. Here's what they say: "Non-members pay a 10% surcharge and additional shipping fees." I couldn't find out how much the additional shipping charges are, but they invite you to send them an email with any questions: stampstore@stamps.org

I did a search for German Democratic Republic (DDR), and it returned 1096 items.

Not sure if it'll help in your particular situation, but worth a shot to check at least!

Edited to add: It might be helpful to include the link!

Forgot to mention: There's now the capability to create a wantlist with them, so if you're looking for something more elusive, that might be a way to go. (HipStamp has this capability, too.)

All of my deliveries, FedEX, UPS, DHL and USPS are at the Post Office. Short staff, long lines and waits and too crowded to social distance. Small rural. One smaller rural is one inside at a time and waiting line is outside.
