This March 16, 1970 one drachma stamp (Sc #974) of Greece is from the eleven-value "Labors of Heracles" set. The image on the stamp is a graphic representation of the marble statuary from the east end of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia (ca. 460 BCE) depicting Heracles's 11th labor. This version of the story shows Atlas (middle figure) delivering the golden apples of the Hesperides to Heracles (figure on right; Roman: Hercules) under the watch of Athena (left figure). |

The sculpture by Olger Villegas is shown on the 2018 stamp.
"The monument, cast in Mexico, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Social Guarantees. About five meters high, it is made up of five sculptures divided into three groups: in the upper part, former president Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia, a student and a peasant represent the creation of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the Labor Code."

On November 1, 1937 Greece issued a 13-stamp "Greek History" pictorial definitive set. The low value 5 drachmas stamp (Sc #396) from the set shows an illustration of the ancient Minoan Bull-Leaping Fresco (ca. 1450 BCE) from Crete. During the activity shown, an athlete would make an acrobatic jump over the bull. The second pic (wikipedia) shows the possible method/trajectory, which is a bit different from that shown on the stamp/mural. From wikipedia, The Bull-Leaping Fresco, as it has come to be called, is the most completely restored of several stucco panels originally sited on the upper story portion of the east wall of the palace at Knossos in Crete." |
