On October 18, 1978 Australia issued a set of four stamps featuring some of the country's champion race horses. The 55c value of this set shows Peter Pan, two other horses and their jockeys. From wikipedia, "Peter Pan was famous for winning the Melbourne Cup twice, in 1932 and 1934." Also, the horse was known for its unusual coloring for a chestnut thoroughbred, having a blond mane and tail. |

Just to clarify, the gentleman on the white horse is the Clerk of the Course (an official at the track), not a jockey. |

Here is the 200 pf + 80 pf value (Mi #1730) from Germany's April 14, 1994 set of five Youth Charity semi-postal stamps. This set commemorates the death centenary of physician and children's book writer Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann (1809-1894). Stamp depicts The Fidget. From British Library (bl.uk), "This is one of the most famous German children books of all times. It describes the gruesome fates of children who fidget at table, suck their thumbs or refuse to eat their soup. The book is named after 'Struwwelpeter' or shock-haired Peter, a boy with wild hair and curling nails who appears at the start." |
