On November 3, 1953 Panama issued a twelve-stamp set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Panama Republic. The 50 centesimo value (Sc #C144) depicts three heroes of the revolution/coup against Colombia. They are Sgt. Major Marcos O. Salazar, Gen. Esteban Huertas and General Domingo Diaz. General Huertas is the most prominent figure. He started his military career at nine years of age, and by age 26 had reached the rank of general. |

The scouting stamp reminded me of this US issue from 1950. Sc. 995 was issued on the occasion of the 2nd National Scout Jamboree held at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. For good measure, here two US issues from 1957. Sc. 1087 celebrating the successful quest for a vaccine effective against Polio, in part funded by the March of Dimes which had its 20th anniversary in that year. Sc. 1093 celebrates teachers on the centennial of the NEA. |

Here is a different domestic triangle, depicted by impressionist Mary Cassatt on a 1966 US stamp (Sc. 1322). Cassatt (1844-1926) has been honored with several US stamps, but this was the first one, using her 1893-94 painting, "The Boating Party." |

Here is the low value 45c + 20c value (Mi #2626) from Germany's November 8, 2007 Christmas set of 2 semi postals. Stamp depicts "Adoration of the Magi." From wikipedia, "In the Gospel of Matthew, 'magoi' from the east do homage to the newborn Jesus, and the transliterated plural 'magi' entered English in this context around 1200...this particular use is also rendered in English as kings and more often in recent times as wise men." |
