three heroes from the Baltic states: Lithuanian partisans Alfonsas Ceponis, Juosas Aleksonis and Gubertas Borisa. All of them bravely fought against the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War and died with weapons in their hands.


as for the famous Baltic chain, it was an interesting flash mob. It is a pity that the population of the three Baltic countries in these 30 years has decreased by exactly 2 million people

On November 4, 1952, Italy issued a set of three stamps to commemorate Armed Forces Day (Nov. 4). The 25 lira stamp (Sc #614) of the set depicts a sailor, a soldier, and an aviator.

These two stamps (Mi #s 518-9) from Berlin are part of an April 6, 1976 set of four youth charity stamps depicting young athletes training for the Olympic Games.

Here is one of the two 30 pf values (Mi #336) from Berlin's 1969 set of eight, nicely engraved "Berliners of the 19th Century" stamps. Stamp depicts a detail from an oil painting by German Romanticist Franz Krueger (1797-1857).

Pierre Kaan (1903-1945) was a professor of philosophy, Marxist essayist, and prominent member of the French Resistance during the Second World War

Jean-Édouard Verneau (1890-1944) french general, chief of Staff in North Africa, Commander in Chief l'Organisation de Résistance de l'Armée, captured by Gestapo and died in Buchenwald camp

Henri Frédéric Manhès (1889-1959) colonel and jornalist, fight in french resistence and arrested by Gestapo in 1943

A philatelist shows two Young Pioneers the oddly precise way he has mounted his stamps on this October 1, 1951, 12 pf Stamp Day issue (Mi #295) of the DDR. The youngsters appear to be quite impressed.

Meanwhile, what happened to the lower level of his bookcase?

Vet medicine - 1v

Edmond Isidore Etienne Nocard (1850-1903) was a French veterinarian and microbiologist and his main contribution to medicine has been the discovery of the genre of bacteria which was named, in his honor, Nocardia.

Henri-Marie Bouley (1814-1885) was a pioneering French veterinarian and pathologist, professor of surgical pathology at the École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort.

Jean-Baptiste "Auguste" Chauveau (1827-1917) was a french veterinarian and professor and conducted investigations in the fields of microbiology, virology, biochemistry, muscle thermodynamics and cardiology
