Czechoslovkia 1987 Scientists - 3v Joseph Petzval (1807-1891) was a mathematician, inventor, and physicist best known for his work in optics. He was born in the town of Szepesbéla in the Kingdom of Hungary C Strouhal (1850-1922) Vincenc Strouhal was a Czech physicist specializing in experimental physics. He was one of the founders of the Institute of Physics of the Czech part of Charles University V Jarnik (1897-1970) Vojt#283;ch Jarník was a Czech mathematician who worked for many years as a professor and administrator at Charles University. He is the namesake of Jarník's algorithm for minimum spanning trees  |

On August 3, 1951 the DDR issued a set of four stamps to publicize the Third World Festival of Youth and Students for Peace in Berlin. Two of the stamps, the 24 pf and 50 pf values (Mi #s 290 and 292) depict a group of three, folk dancing girls.\  |

France,1971 Estates General of 1789  The Estates General of 1789 was a general assembly representing the French estates of the realm: the clergy (First Estate), the nobility (Second Estate), and the commoners (Third Estate). It was the last of the Estates General of the Kingdom of France. Summoned by King Louis XVI, the Estates General of 1789 ended when the Third Estate formed the National Assembly and, against the wishes of the King, invited the other two estates to join. This se-tenant pair of 3.50 + .50 mk stamps was issued as a special Pro Philatelia, one-pane booklet by Finland on September 24, 1999. Stamps (Facit #s 1491-2) depict two paintings by Hugo Gerhard Simberg (1873-1917). The stamp on the left is Garden of Death (1896), and the one on the right is Wounded Angel (1903). Simberg studied under Akseli Gallen-Kallela for several years.  |

He was assassinated at the outbreak of World War I, and remains one of the main historical figures of the French Left Victor Chcelcher (1804-1893) was a French politician and writer, best known for his work towards the abolition of slavery in France  |

Here is the high value 10 drachma stamp (Sc #600) from Greece's May 21, 1956 set of 14 featuring Greek royalty. The stamp depicts King Paul (1901-64) and Queen Frederica (1917-81), with Prince Constantine (b. 1940) on the left. Constantine would become King Constantine II in 1964, and reign until the monarchy was abolished on June 1, 1973. King Paul was a first cousin of Prince Philip (U.K.) who died today.  |
