On October 3, 1985 Ireland issued this 44 p stamp (Hib #C420) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Institution of Engineers of Ireland. The stamp's designers selected The Key Man, a painting by Irish romantic/social realist artist Sean Keating (1889 - 1977) as the artwork for the stamp. This painting was one of the works Keating produced in the late 1920s, while commissioned to record the building of the hydro-electric generator at Ardnacrudna near Limerick. In his style, his work made the construction appear as a heroic achievement. |

This February 6, 1981, 18 p stamp (SG #1144) of the U.K. depicts a group of three Morris dancers. From wikipedia, "Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance usually accompanied by music. It is based on rhythmic stepping and the execution of choreographed figures by a group of dancers, usually wearing bell pads on their shins. Implements such as sticks, swords and handkerchiefs may also be wielded by the dancers." |
