Maury mentions printings on lower quality paper for the 1c and 3c, but not the 40c, and postal forgeries of the 6c and 40c, but only in used form. This could be a collector's mark on a toned stamp, of course.

Thanks Geoff, yes I had considered that.
The paper appears to have the thickness of the originals, quality looks similar.

Indochina Phil. Soc fail to recognise it.
Yet to hear from expertisers.

Beautiful pages and stamps, Rod.

From my collection, I will share this tourist post card from 1939, for the topic. A real photo post card, the postmark is "SIEMREAP-ANGKOR CAMBODGE." The square box cancel is a mystery to me, not sure what that is about, but perhaps someone knows what it means.

Linus

Note: That Text also exists as a slogan duplex, to a CDS PHNOM-PENH / CAMBODGE Postmark

Thanks Vayolene, for showing the slogan duplex postmark that Rod mentioned above.

I also have this cover, scanned below, in my collection, for the topic.
It is a philatelic example of C26 used on cover, but not the first day of issue. I like the design of this UPU stamp; the 2022 Scott value used is $4.00.

3pi isn't all that high for postwar airmail, but it might not prove to be a standard or minimum rate to somewhere. With the other colonies that issued a 1949 UPU stamp, the denominations appear to be arbitrary vs. their airmail rates.

I'm finding 1.20pi to be the lowest Indochina airmail cover rate to France for the period.

Response from Stamp Expertisers regarding the preceding post of mark on back of Petain issue.

Hello
That mark is most likely impossible to decipher today. I would consider it being some dealer's advertisement as an expert would not use a mark containing no clues about its origin.
Best regards
